About our overlays

Our front panel overlays are professionally printed on a premium self-adhesive film with a subtle satin finish — delivering rich, deep colours without harsh reflections.

The material is both durable and resilient, resistant to scuffs and easy to clean with a damp cloth. Just remember: while the overlay is water-resistant, your synth is not!

Should you wish to remove it later, the adhesive is forgiving and overlays peel off cleanly without leaving sticky residue behind.

How to apply your self-adhesive overlay

Note: this instruction video of for the older vinyl version of overlays. We will replace this with a video for the current material as soon as possible.

Fitting your new self-adhesive overlay on your device is pretty straight-forward. No special tools are needed except for a small Phillips screwdriver to unfasten the faceplate panel screws (Eurorack models only).

Note: Be sure the faceplate surface is clean and dry before applying the overlay.

  1. Disconnect the device from the power cord and remove all other cables. Place it on a flat solid surface and remove the knobs by pulling them straight up. Some of them might require a bit of force to come off – a gentle but consistent pull will do it. Remove any rubber trimpot covers.
  2. For Eurorack models, unfasten the faceplate panel screws. Be sure to store them safely – they’re tiny and have a tendency to disappear. Also avoid tilting your synth, as the rack nuts might slide out of position (realigning them is no fun!).
  3. Clean the faceplate to remove any dust and grime. Dust can show up as little bumps under the overlay, and grime can make it stick less to the surface. If needed, wipe gently with a damp – but not wet! – soft cloth.
  4. Peel and align. Starting from one edge (left side is easiest on the Neutron due to the LED layout), peel back a small section of the overlay from the backing paper. Align the cutouts carefully with the sockets, buttons, LEDs, and shafts. For models with flip switches, make sure they all point in the same direction – they can get in the way otherwise, and affect alignment.
  5. Apply gradually. Press down the aligned section and slowly work your way across the panel, peeling away more of the backing sheet as you go. Keep an eye on alignment. The fit is snug by design to avoid visible gaps once applied.
  6. Fix mistakes gently. If part of the overlay is misaligned or if air gets trapped, gently lift it and reapply. The material is tough and can be repositioned several times – as long as it isn’t stretched. Minor bubbles can be pushed to the edge using a credit card or similar soft-edged tool.
  7. Finish up. Once the overlay is fully applied, reattach any panel screws and push the knobs back on. Reconnect your cables and enjoy!

How to care for your overlay

Our overlays are printed on durable, water-resistant adhesive material and are easy to clean. For regular maintenance, simply wipe with a damp cloth. If needed, a small amount of mild soap (like dish detergent) can help remove fingerprints or smudges – just make sure to avoid getting any liquid into your instrument.

To keep your overlay looking its best, avoid using alcohol-based cleaners, solvents, bleach or abrasive scrubbing tools, as these may damage the printed surface.

Like most printed and electronic equipment, prolonged direct sunlight may gradually affect colours over time. We recommend keeping your instrument out of intense UV exposure to preserve both the overlay and the gear itself.

With proper care, your overlay will stay vibrant and functional for years to come.
